Mothers & Daughters Enjoy Booktalks!

The first-ever Mother-Daughter Booktalk held on February 13th wa s a success. "Girls Read" was the theme of the February 13th ESP (Enrich-Support-Provide) program held at the North Campus Library.  Almost 50 moms and daughters enjoyed booktalking by celebrity Nancy Schwerin (FCS Interior and Fashion Design instructor) and tasty treats provided by Kate Ebner and Danielle Mackovitch (FCS Foods instructo rs).  Librarians Kelley Gibson, Carol Henry, and Nancy Richter also booktalked, and Marilyn Zimny helped coordinate the event.  After the booktalks, which were centered around topics mothers and daughters would equally enjoy, each attendee took home a free paperback copy (or two) of a highlighted book.  Books were purchased using grant funds.  Several ESP Booktalk evenings are held throughout the year.

Children & Parents Enjoy Holiday Write Night

The snow began to fall just as the first guests arrived for Holiday Write Night.  Approximately 350 children attended with their parents, and almost 250 LT student volunteers  assisted.  Activities included writing letters to Santa, creating holiday cards, face painting and much more. LT's mascot Noil was on hand for picture taking, and entertainment was provided by LT student musicians and WLTL radio station.  Everyone enjoyed the delicious punch and cookies from the Chef's Club.

LT READS! Summer BBQ

Perfect weather and happy students "hot dogging" for the camera - what better way to celebrate the second annual LT READS summer reading program!   Over 70 students and new faculty members attended the August 17th cookout which took place in the new South Campus patio.  Musical entertainment provided by WLTL gave a lively beat to the event.  Students enjoyed mingling with each other, meeting the new teachers, and even tossing frisbees on the field.  The  BBQ was open to all students who read at least one book from the summer reading lists  and completed a postcard with their comments about the book.  Postcards could either be mailed in or dropped off at various locations. Mr. Scott Eggerding, Director of Curriculum and Instruction , MC'd the event, and Mr. Dave Franson, Principal, was the grill master.  All students received goody bags containing items donated by local businesses, and prize drawings were held

Homework Nights Held

Nikita Hulbert, African-American Student Liaison, works with students in the SC library during a recent Homework Night.  This program, which is facilitated by Hulbert, is one of several that allows students time to focus on academics and bond socially through activities like basketball after homework assignments are completed.  Homework Nights will be held on Thursdays from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the SC library.
