Judith Polivka Betts, A.W.S., a 1954 graduate, has attained an international reputation for
her watercolor paintings. She is highly respected as a painter, instructor, author and juror with
paintings in a number of private, corporate, university and museum collections around the world. A
member of prestigious artist societies including the American Watercolor Society, National
Watercolor Society, Allied Artists of America, National Arts Club and Watercolor USA Honor Society,
she has been invited as the juror of awards and national exhibitions. Recipient of hundreds
of awards such as the Mary Pleissner Memorial Award from the American Watercolor Society, the
Audubon Artists Silver Medal for Creative Watercolor, the Richard Seyffert Award from the National
Arts Club and the Adolph and Clara Obrig Prize from the National Academy of Design, her work is
widely exhibited and selected for inclusion in prestigious national competitions. Betts'
watercolors have appeared in many professional magazines, and her techniques have been highlighted
in numerous books. Her own award winning book Watercolor ... Let's Think About It! is in its fourth
printing. Active in art education, she holds a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from Indiana
University and a master's of education from Louisiana State University. She has done post graduate
work at Southern Oregon State College and Brigham Young University and is certified to teach art.
She teaches and presents seminars for universities and colleges in the U.S. and Canada and holds
international workshops in countries including Mexico, England, Scotland and Italy. Betts serves on
the American Watercolor Society Board of Directors. She is an honorary member of the Federation of
Canadian Artists and La Societe Canadienne de L'Aquarelle.
