A graduate of the class of 1946, Phyllis Eck Nordin has spent more than 25 years creating sculpture in various mediums, such as bronze, welded steel, fiberglass and cast stone, some up to three stories tall and weighing 4 tons. Her works are displayed in libraries, hospitals, universities, banks, offices and churches in 10 states. She and her work have been recognized by the Toledo Museum of Art, the Art Commission of Greater Toledo, Who's Who in American Women, Who's Who in American Art, and the National Association of Women Artists, among others. For her, sculpture is the language of sensation, a spiritual and emotional outlet, a channel for expressing ideas. She serves the Arts by teaching sculpture and design from her home studio, as well as courses on "Exploring Creativity" at Lourdes College and at the University of Toledo in Ohio. She consistently donates sculpture to worthy causes and has served as a member of the Arts Commission of Greater Toledo for 15 years. Active in her community, Nordin has been a leader on a local orchestra board, hospital auxiliary and the public television and radio stations. She holds two bachelor's degrees, one in science and one in art, and earned a master's degree in philosophy with a thesis dealing with the creative process.
