All State Musicians :::
LTHS musicians play and croon their way to top
Congratulations to the 15 Lyons Township High School students named All-State Musicians. For decades, LTHS has dominated in the choral category and this year is no exception. Once again a large contingent of the All-State choir is from LTHS.
This year, 11 LTHS student singers were named to the All-State choir; four seniors are repeat honorees, having been named All-State musicians last year. In addition, two students were named All-State musicians in band, with one student being a repeat winner. Another student was named All-State in orchestra, and finally a senior was named a Future Music Educator. In total, 15 LT students received All-State recognition.
All-State musicians are chosen by the Illinois Music Educators Association (IMEA) based upon preliminary auditions held in October. Each year, students from approximately 575 high schools in Illinois audition and approximately 1200 students statewide are named All-State musicians.
“The All-State selection process is very time consuming and rigorous, and those students who choose to make this commitment and dedicate themselves to this endeavor find honor in the effort itself as well as the recognition of being named to an All-State organization,” said Assistant Division Chair for Fine Arts and music teacher Ron Kieswetter. “It is truly a wonderful educational and musical experience with memories that last a lifetime,” he added.
In addition to this year’s musical performers, senior J. Cammarata was named an All-State Future Music Educator. After completing an essay about why she intends to become a music educator, Cammarata participated in professional development workshops alongside teachers from across the state. The recognition functions as a way to involve students in the field of music education at an early age.
Students named All-State musicians will perform at the annual IMEA convention in January;
instrumental musicians reaudition for judges and compete. Musicians are then ranked and seated in
either the All-State or the coveted Honors band or orchestra. While choir members do not compete at
the convention, four LT choir members were named to the Honors Chorus.
