LTHS libraries launch ESP Program

Are the Lyons Township High School librarians psychic? No, but they are launching an ESP Program – Enrich-Support-Provide – a program designed to provide enrichment for reluctant readers and to increase parent involvement in reading.

To kick off the ESP Program, the South Campus Library is hosting a booktalk for LTHS parents of reluctant readers Monday, October 23, 7-8pm, South Campus Library, 4900 S. Willow Springs, Rd., Western Springs.

The booktalk event is open to any LTHS parent interested in helping their student read. With the help of local youth librarians, parents will be introduced to highly recommended, current, high interest young adult literature. From science fiction to romance, from action adventure to mystery, librarians will read short passages and provide a synopsis of the recommended books. In addition, parents will be given tip sheets on how to encourage their reluctant readers to read, to read more, and to read more effectively.

Free paperback books and prize drawings for bookstore gift certificates will be awarded. The booktalk is for parents of LTHS students only, and registration is limited to 75 participants. Please call South Campus librarian Kelley Gibson at 708-579-6788 to register or for additional information. Baby-sitting services may be available with sufficient registrations.
