Take precautions against telemarketer scams :::
Test-takers beware. Complaints about test prep companies abound. Some LTHS parents have received
calls from telemarketers touting their product claiming their son/daughter expressed interest in
their product and/or may be eligible for a scholarship. They have even gone so far as to claim to
be affiliated with LTHS and ask for bank account numbers.
Here are a few precautions you can take:
• Do your homework. Don't buy without first getting a Better Business Bureau
reliability report. If you're interested in what the telemarketer is selling, he/she should be
willing to call back after you've gotten the report.
• It's better to pay by credit card than to give out your bank account number. If
recurring charges you didn't authorize are added to your credit card, you can dispute them.
• Check the organization's tax-exempt status if you want to deduct your “contribution”
by asking them for a copy of the Internal Revenue Service's determination letter.
• If you have any doubts or questions, please contact the LTHS College/Career Office at
579-6357 or Testing Office at 708-579-6762.
